Bloomberg Businessweek Turns 85

Eighty-five years is a mere blink of history’s eye. Yet since 1929, when Businessweek was first published, the world has been transformed by profound innovation. While 2014 was a milestone anniversary, our celebration was not a tribute to longevity. It was not about Businessweek’s past, but rather the thinkers and doers who looked to the future and created it.

Under the guidance of Michael Bloomberg (a noted disruptor in his own right), we invited the worlds most important business leaders to a celebrate Businessweek’s 85th anniversary with a glossy, star-filled fete at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. Hosted by Seth Meyers, with performances from Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett, the evening toasted more than eight decades of business powerhouses and entrepreneurial creativity.

Titled “85 Years, 85 Ideas,” the anniversary event and corresponding magazine special feature commemorated some of the most innovative concepts since 1929. From denim, bottled water and Starbucks to Napster, Apple and Google, the magazine focuses on collective achievements worldwide, recognizing what it believes to be the 85 most disruptive ideas in business over the last 85 years.
